What YOU Did This Summer
How You Improved the Mental Health and Self-Esteem of Individuals in the Fremont Community
So many of you have supported us by donating (money or time) to Boldly Me. We'd like to tell you what YOU did for the people of Fremont recently.
Summer Community Classes
We teamed up with Tri-City Volunteers and trained their volunteers so they could, in turn, help the people they serve (i.e. homeless and low-income individuals). Your financial support allowed us to provide training on our Financial Stability curriculum at no cost. And now there is a rippling effect happening as we train trainers so more people can benefit in less time. The Financial Stability classes included the following:
Money & Me - Taught the importance of earning money, learning how to spend responsibly, and saving to reach a long term goal.
Stellar Employees & Students - Emphasized the importance of being accountable and predictable. Time management, setting boundaries, and managing realistic expectations so that you are successful and have high trust with your manager or teachers.
Finding Your Passion - Included exploring student's long term goals, teaching the importance of finding their passion, and making money. Younger students were encouraged to stay in school, attend classes, and pursue a trade that creates financial stability and joy as they reach adulthood.
The sessions were energetic (they got to play Monopoly and everything!) and class feedback indicated that the training was very useful and impactful.
Many thanks to Taylor Johnson (Executive Director of TCV) and Sara Govea (Manager of Agency Operations) for coordinating this valuable effort! And thanks to our teachers, Pam, Brandon, Nadine and Karen! Woo hoo!
Whole Foods Nickels for Non Profits
YOU shopped at Whole Foods Market in Fremont and donated your reusable bag credit to us. And apparently, you have a lot of bags because we received $1,114.40. Do you know how many nickels that is?? (22,288 in case you're wondering). Your contributions are helping to reduce violence and other destructive behavior in K-12 schools, so thank you!!
Youth Service Through Cultural Arts Event
We get so inspired when we witness philanthropy in our local youth. This was no better demonstrated than when YSTCA held a cultural arts event in August to benefit Boldly Me and Drivers for Survivors. And YOU came out in droves! During their "Music and Dance Showcase" event, over 170+ singers and dancers performed from numerous Indian classical music and dance schools in the Bay Area. We met so many kids! And this event could not have happened without the hard work of certain YTSCA members including Adarsh, Vedika, Malini, Sowbarnika and Meera, as well as some YSTCA moms like Radha, Kavitha, Geetha, Adarsh's mom, and others!
YSTCA raised over $20,000 at their event.
We feel so honored to have been chosen by the teens of YSTCA as one of the beneficiaries for this amazing event, and we are grateful to YOU for supporting it so that we can continue to help K-12 kids in our community live mentally healthy lives. You guys rock!
Fremont Festival of the Arts (Lemonade Alley)
YOU came out to our lemonade stand on Lemonade Alley while enjoying the food, music and other goodies at the 32nd annual Fremont Festival of the Arts. It was a warm and fun weekend and we even held our Board Meeting on Sunday afternoon inside the booth - did you see us? The money we raised will help us continue to teach kids how to deal with difficult feelings and treat others with respect in and out of the K-12 classroom.
Water Gala 2015
Your donations and sponsorships made for a hugely successful Water Gala this year! We spent all summer preparing for it and set a goal of raising $10,000 and YOU did it! So many kids (and adults!) were able to come to a safe environment, be themselves, relax, and play. Some of our students have gained enough confidence that they performed in front of the crowd! Here is a video slideshow of all the food and fun:

We have so much more to share with you about what we've been up to and our plans for this Fall and school year. And we will very soon! But for now, thank you again for WHAT YOU DID this past summer.
"Boldly Me does what the city, the county and the school district cannot do. They teach people how to deal with their feelings" - Fremont Mayor, Bill Harrison, while speaking at the YSTCA event, August 2015.
